Meitheal Regional Resource Centres

– As part of our five-year Development Programme, Comhaltas identified four key areas for action:

These Meitheal Regional Resource Centres are now starting to come on-line, offering new services while giving Comhaltas a more direct presence in local communities around Ireland. This page summarises the current and planned Resource Centres.

Cultúrlann na hÉireann

Dublin (South)

This fine building is the headquarters of Comhaltas operations and a cultural destination in its own right. Our performances and friendly sessions attract visitors of all backgrounds.

Dundalk Gaol

Dundalk

A former gaol, this building was donated to Comhaltas by the Louth County Council. The building is currently undergoing extensive adaptations, but you can look forward to an exciting opening.

Cois na hAbhna

Ennis

Cois na hAbhna, our presence in Co. Clare, houses the Comhaltas Regional Archive in its Sean Reid Library. It also has an auditorium for céilí dances and concerts, a traditional-style Irish kitchen where lively sessions are held throughout the year and classrooms for music lessons. It is currently undergoing renovations and expansion to host even more activities in future.

Ceoláras Coleman
Gurteen, Co. Sligo

Gurteen

Formerly known as The Coleman Heritage Centre, Ceoláras Coleman was acquired by Comhaltas and is now the Regional Resource Centre for members in the counties of Fermanagh, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon, and Sligo. In 2007 Comhaltas invested heavily in enlarging and refurbishing the building which now contains;

A foyer with shop A 120 seat theatre An Exhibition Hall Class rooms Kitchen, Dining/reception area.

The Centre is the location of the regional Meitheal group that has the following staff who report to Árd Stiúrthóir, Labhrás Ó Murchu and work in cooperation with the Meitheal Management Team that represents the membership in the five counties.

The Meitheal office is staffed from 09.30 to 17.00 Monday to Friday and provides administrative and secretarial services to the Comhaltas units in the region.

Regional archival work is carried out by the trained team of archival field workers using the latest state of the art video and audio equipment and this work is co-ordinated from the Meitheal office who supply the editing skills for the processing of the collected material.

Craobh Coleman Branch that uses the Ceoláras Coleman for its address organises music and singing classes, concerts and festivals throughout the year and can be contacted as follow: * Tel: +353 71 9182599 * Fax: +353 71 9182602

The Regional Resource Centre also houses the office of The Michael Coleman Heritage Company Limited under the management of John McGettrick and his staff of Fás community employees who manage the building and who provide services for the building and the activities within it as and when required.

Brú Ború

Cashel

The Brú Ború cultural centre is located at the foot of the historic Rock of Cashel in County Tipperary. Facilities at Brú Ború include a folk theatre, restaurant, craft centre, recreation chamber, information centre, genealogy suite, and subterranean “Sounds of History” experience. During the Summer season (June to September), there is an extensive programme of services and activities on offer. Brú Ború’s resident music and dance ensemble has entertained visitors from many countries at their home theatre, as well as touring regularly.

Mullingar Regional Centre

Mullingar

This new centre, adjoining the Mullingar Arts Centre, will play host to classes and performances for the Westmeath branches. Currently the Mullingar office is the administrative home for our Meithal team overseeing the Westmeath, Longford and Offaly counties.
